Arkessa becomes Three UK's first M2M platform customer

M2M specialist Arkessa claims to be the first company to launch services based on the new wholesale M2M platform being offered by UK mobile-phone operator Three.

The company says it will take advantage of Three’s “ultrafast” network to offer embedded data SIM cards for devices that require high-speed connections for video and other advanced services, including CCTV cameras and remote health-monitoring systems.

Arkessa (Cambridge, UK) already claims to serve some of the UK’s largest organizations in the security, transportation and healthcare sectors, and cites the speed and coverage of Three’s DC-HSDPA network as reasons for striking a deal with the operator.

“The Three platform completes Arkessa’s network portfolio of mobile networks and delivers more choice and benefits to our customers that are not available elsewhere,” said Andrew Orrock, the managing director of Arkessa.

According to Three (Maidenhead, UK), M2M providers using the its wholesale M2M platform will be able to get mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services up and running in just two weeks.

“Our commitment to sharing the latest ultrafast technologies with our partners without charging a premium makes us a natural home for data-rich services as we continue to expand our coverage and capacity,” said Lynda Burton, the director of Three Wholesale.

Three claims that its DC-HSDPA network is already available to 55% of the UK population and will cover 80% of the country by the end of March.

The operator recently bought 1800MHz spectrum from joint venture and rival EE, and says it will use this to provide even more coverage and capacity for connected devices later this year.
