Interview with Karl Nebbia, Director of Spectrum Solutions at Alion Science and Technology

In this edition of TelecomEngine.com's Upshot Briefing series, Executive Editor Jared Bazzy and former NTIA leader Karl Nebbia discuss spectrum management.

Mr. Nebbia is currenly the Director of Spectrum Solutions at Alion Science and Technology, where he leads the wireless spectrum services unit. Prior to joining Alion, Mr. Nebbia was the associate administrator for the Office of Spectrum Management at the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), a post he held between 2007 and 2014.

As the associate administrator for the Office of Spectrum Management, Mr. Nebbia led spectrum management for the executive branch agencies, engineering, IT policy, and strategic planning functions. His efforts in this role have focused on updating federal spectrum management and moving forward key initiatives on relocation of federal systems, including the spectrum sharing testbed pilot program.

In his more than 30-year career with NTIA, Mr. Nebbia focused on developing policies and processes to manage the ever-growing issues surrounding the use of wireless frequencies by civilian government, the Department of Defense, commercial firms, municipalities, and private users.

Mr. Nebbia is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
