Wireless Broadband Alliance Calls for Industry to Capitalize on Wi-Fi Calling in Latest Whitepaper

Wi-Fi Calling Can Reduce Costs and Deliver a Universal Mobile Communications Service to Consumers Worldwide

The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) has today published its latest whitepaper, outlining the opportunities Wi-Fi calling presents for mobile operators, mobile broadband service providers and consumers. The paper discusses the significant role Wi-Fi calling can play in addressing industry issues such as coverage, as well as highlights the gaps in the market to help promote the deployment, use and growing momentum of Wi-Fi calling.

Virtualization at Scale: How to Operationalize and Commercialize

Open Source Technologies Give CSPs the Best Chance to Increase Operational Efficiency

Communications Service Providers (CSPs) are looking to virtualization as a means to enable innovation through the introduction of new services, creating an aggressive time-to-market strategy and as a way to stay ahead of the competition.

CSPs face a number of potential roadblocks which includes long cycle to get to market due to manual operations and rigid traditional backoffice systems; high maintenance costs for network operations and integration; the lack of a single point of responsibility and expertise; and an overall lack of knowledge and standards in the industry.

Banking to be Leading Driver in the FinTech Ecosystem

There are many constituents within the FinTech Ecosystem including Digital Payments providers, Business Finance companies, and Consumer Finance providers.

Satellite Ecosystem Advancements Extend Broadband Benefits to Unconnected

With HTS, satellite is poised to play an even more important role in the expansion of wireless networks

The requirement to close the connectivity gap – through cellular penetration and increasing demand for mobile broadband services – is driving mobile network operators (MNOs) to upgrade network infrastructures.

The challenge is finding a solution that cost-effectively expands networks to enable delivery of affordable services for end users today – while at the same time building infrastructure flexibility that can scale to address the potentially explosive demands in the future.

Telecoms Need for Open Virtual Platform

Today’s communications service providers face a challenge similar to the one that shook enterprise data centers over the past decade and a half. Namely, the imperative to move from siloed, proprietary application stacks to a virtualized cloud-based architecture that can provide a unified and sustainable platform for mixed workloads.

The Future of IoT is Embedded Systems and Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS)

Embedded systems are highly customized, developed and programmed as per user requirements.  Conventional embedded systems are electronic components that possess a microprocessor, peripherals, memory card, and software program that run instructions, operating system and tools (debuggers, static and non-programmable), and follows firmware programming embedded in the micro-chip.

The Evolution of Internet of Things (IoT) Platforms

From Purpose-built to General Purpose

IoT Platforms represents those systems (software, hardware, and middleware) that enable IoT network, device, application, and service management.  This includes connectivity, device administration, identity management, permissions control, data management, APIs, SDKs, and more.

Many of the initial IoT Platforms are purpose-built.  Longer term, Mind Commerce sees the need for more General Purpose IoT Platforms as there is certain functionality that will be important to handle the many and varied functions involved in IoT management.

TIA Issues Comments on IoT Regulation

Emphasizes Need for Open Standards and Technology-Neutrality

Arlington, VA

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued comments (pdf) regarding the Internet of Things (IoT) to the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

International Data Flows Face Uncertain Future in Europe

EU’s move last year to strike down the data sharing framework marked a setback for American companies

TIA

The flow of personal data across borders has been a contentious issue recently—and one that will see important developments in the coming months.
