Handful of Infrastructure Firms Move to the Front with Carrier Ethernet 2.0

The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) celebrated the fortieth anniversary of Ethernet last month ahead of its quarterly meeting in San Diego. Ethernet’s father, Bob Metcalfe, presided as Metro Ethernet Forum President Nan Chen announced certification of 20 companies whose products passed rigorous testing for Carrier Ethernet (CE) 2.0.

M2M software platform revenues to hit $3.85 billion by 2017

Two types of software platform that underpin the development of the M2M market are forecast to generate $3.85 billion in revenues by 2017, according to a new report from ABI Research.

Application Development Platforms (ADPs) and Connected Device Platforms (CDPs) are becoming critical parts of the M2M ecosystem. AEPs reduce the amount of time it takes to develop M2M applications, while CDPs automate the management of M2M module connectivity, which is of crucial importance in such a low-ARPU market.

Why what happens in an internet minute really matters

This might not be the year the world ends, as some say the Mayans prophesized, but it may seem like it for a telecommunications industry under pressure to meet booming demand for Internet resources.


By some projections, the explosion in adoption of Internet connected devices such as laptops, tablets, smart phones, blue ray players and Internet TVs could strain network bandwidth beyond capacity as soon as this year, causing cases of services loss as available access to network bandwidth becomes completely consumed by peak demand.
